KRISTOFFER AJER is a bhoy who has come to the forefront for Celtic in a big way and come up with some big moments to make sure Celtic kept their momentum going. Considering at the start of the season he was somewhat of an afterthought with Boyata and Benkovic holding court in defence his rise to prominence has been well earned.

However, when it came to young player of the year, the defender didn’t make the final cut for the shortlist while other players did and it’s quite baffling when you look at it.

Motherwell’s Jake Hastie is in the reckoning when he spent the first half of the season playing in the lower leagues. Upon his return to Motherwell, the midfielder has played 12 games for Stephen Robinson’s side playing only five full games for his club.

Kristoffer Ajer, on the other hand, has played 39 games for the club in all competitions 23 of those coming in the SPFL. The defender also part of the side who only conceded one goal in the League Cup on their way to lifting the trophy although he did miss out in the final.

It’s shameful that Ajer has not even been shortlisted in this case and while this is voted on by the players, it’s crazy to think there weren’t enough professionals who singled the Norweigan out. With one trophy in the bag and two more potentially on the horizon, it’s poor.

Thankfully Ajer won Celtic’s young player of the season and rightly so. Have some of the pros forgotten what age Kristoffer is because he’s been around for a while? It’s my only logical explanation.
