Former Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata who walked away for nothing in the summer has just bagged his first goal for Hertha Berlin.

The Belgian international cut ties with Celtic after Neil Lennon had helped guide Boyata and his team-mates to another treble.

Boyata had fallen out with Brendan Rodgers at the club early last season which led to a stand off between the pair. At the time, Rodgers declared Boyata was fit but the player said he wasn’t and refused to play. It was centred around the defender wanting to leave Celtic last season.

When the window closed, Boyata came back into the Celtic side and ironically scored the winning goal on a night where the Green Brigade unfurled a banner saying he was not fit to wear the jersey.

Having made his intentions clear, the defender walked away in the summer for nothing and signed for Hertha Berlin.

His last action for Celtic was to go off injured during a Glasgow Derby game. With the game posed at 1-1, Boyata limped off the field and punched the dugout in frustration. Celtic would go on to win the game.

Boyata got among the goals for Hertha against Koln in a four to nil rout.

Since leaving the club Celtic have strengthened their defensive options quite significantly and maybe it was best the player moves on in the end.
