Celtic Statement’s Glaring Omission: No Backing for Brendan Rodgers

Celtic’s board attempted to calm supporter unrest with a lengthy statement addressing concerns over the summer transfer window – but one glaring omission has only fuelled speculation.

The club spoke at length about financial sustainability, UEFA regulations, and their commitment to long-term success. They thanked fan groups for constructive meetings and acknowledged frustration over missed transfer targets.

Yet, despite weeks of media reports questioning Brendan Rodgers’ future, the manager’s name was absent.

The silence is notable. Reports earlier this week suggested figures within the hierarchy believe Rodgers could be angling for an exit, frustrated by the collapse of deals for Kasper Dolberg and David Datro Fofana, and by the sale of Adam Idah without an adequate replacement. While Rodgers has publicly said he intends to see out his contract, the lack of backing from above will raise fresh doubts.

The omission also undermines the claim that the club “takes supporters’ views extremely seriously.” Fans have heard their captain, Callum McGregor, call for reinforcements and watched as Rodgers stressed the need for quality additions. But in a 1,000-word response, no assurance was given that the manager has the support and resources to deliver.

For many, that absence is louder than anything written. In the midst of mounting protests and banners in the stands, the board spoke about cash reserves and sustainable growth but chose not to declare confidence in Rodgers.

The question now is whether that silence is deliberate or simply an oversight. Either way, it leaves Rodgers carrying the weight of expectation without the public backing he deserves.

Supporters wanted clarity, instead they were left with more questions.
