LEIGH GRIFFITHS will go under the knife on Tuesday in a bid to kick his injury woes once and for all.

The striker has had a nightmare season with niggling calf injuries that have seen him drop down the scoring charts at Celtic Park.

Celtic and Brendan Rodgers believe now is the time to get the surgery done so Leigh can heal and get ready for the new season.

With Celtic’s long season finishing on May 20th after another successful treble winning season – the players are only off until June 18th when they will return to prepare for Champions League qualifiers. This obviously doesn’t include the World Cup Celts.

The hope is Leigh will be raring to go for the new season after a ‘clean up’.

Speaking about his striker, the Irishman admitted Leigh has been very unlucky.

“It’s been unfortunate for him this year with injury, illness and bits and pieces.

“It’s probably been frustrating, but hopefully that will get tidied up and he’ll be back, fit and raring to go for pre-season.”
