Johnny Kenny was named on the teamsheet, along with Bosun Lawal. The Celtic striker put his country 1-0 on the 25th-minute mark; the team held on to the lead until the 78th minute when Portugal scored their first goal. The game finished 4-1, and Ireland was eliminated from the UEFA Under-19 European Championship Elite Phase.
As for Lawal, after missing the England game, where Johnny Kenny collided with the keeper, he started the game. This season, the defender has been a standout in Tommy McIntyre’s B side, despite his time out with injuries.
It’s excellent for Celtic’s younger players to have the chance to represent their countries. It shows Celtic’s talent in the ranks; they just need to be appropriately managed.
It won’t be long before players like Lawal is pushing for a starting place in Postecoglou’s side.
