Celtic are reportedly set to test Charlton Athletic’s resolve, one more time by putting in the third offer for the left-sided player, Alfie Doughty.

So far, Celtic have failed with two bids for the 20-year old and according to the Daily Record are set to put one final offer in before moving on to a more short-term option, suggesting it could be a loan move.

There is thought to have been a recent hold-up in the deal, with the Addicks going through a takeover. Still, today the deal was finally completed, possibly allowing the Scottish Champions another chance to come in with an offer.

The last offer was thought to have been around £600,000 plus add-ons, with the League One side reportedly looking for around £1 million as Doughty goes into the final year of his contract.

It is highly likely that if Neil Lennon cannot get a hold of Doughty during this window, he will look to sign him on a pre-contract in January, which could be a shrewd bit of business from the club.

The new Charlton owner did suggest today that players will not be sold on the cheap, but with Doughty’s current contract situation, it could force them to sell for a little less.
