It’s being reported by Transfer journalist Ekrem Konur that Celtic had launched a €2.5m bid for Antwerp right-back Aurélio Buta.

The journalist claims the club have made the offer but it’s falling just short of what Antwerp want for their defender.

Celtic are in desperate need of a right back with only Anthony Ralston available in the position at present. We are wildly under prepared defensively for what’s ahead this season and the club have to go about their business in a much more timely manner.

Carl Starfelt and Kyogo Furuhashi both are set to join up with the squad next week after isolating. Both could see action pretty quickly once they touch down in Lennoxtown.

Any right back brought in this summer will likely immediately be put into the starting XI.

Buta, 24 is in the final year of his Antwerp deal so there’s certainly a chance the Hoops can grab him before he’s available on a free transfer next season.

  1. There are an awful lot of excuses made about why Celtic have few players in at the moment quarantine, pandemic etc but the names mentioned today are the names mentioned 3 weeks ago. If they were signed they would be ready to go into the team now and we would not be getting hammered 6-2 at home. The club is ran like a small time no-mark outfit not a European club. It has been for decades. We now treat Europe like a bonus and are back to relying on the games against them for serious interest. Truth is since the 1980s they have always been more ambitious than us, even in their New Club days in the 4th division. And that is criminal. The entire board at Celtic needs to be thrown out on their ear, physically and most of the management team. You can’t have a new start with the same failures in charge. And Mc Kay is just a yes man stooge for the Tory bean counters.

  2. I don’t know why supporters think there will be any improvement because we have a new manager and ceo, the club is still being run by DD and incompetent boardroom. Their main concern is balancing the books and don’t care about results.

  3. Any of the defenders mentioned recently would walk into this Celtic team including goalkeepers. The problem is our board do not want to pay the asking price for any player. Out of the Champions League this week before it starts in earnest.

  4. There are so many dissident fans who are basically negative in everything they say about the club.I believe there are somewhere around 7,000 on the waiting list, waiting to support the team, if you are so disgruntled give up your season book and let a Celtic supporter in.Ange will overcome and the boards job is to keep the club solvent and to bring in players when needed and yes we do need some in in various positions but the manager has stated that he wants to be involved in the purchase of these players not through agents who are trying to punt one and all to Celtic. It is going to be tough for a little while but the manager will prevail and the thunder will return.
