We now have a better understanding as to why the club are very keen to bring in a winger this January.

James Forrest has been out since the start of the season, after having an operation for a stress fracture, the Celtic star was scheduled to be back by near the end of December.

Neil Lennon delivered a fresh update on the wide man’s recovery and it’s not good news for James or thew club.

“He is coming off the crutches at the weekend, which is a step in the right direction.” The Celtic manager told SunSport.

“We’re probably looking at the end of January.

“By then we will have an idea of where he is.”

Being out for the whole of January and then getting up to speed after that is going to see James miss most of the season and is 100% out of the Glasgow Derby on Jan 2.

We need natural width in the team and the window will be used to bring someone in who can take their place in the starting XI almost immediately.

James has his critics but there’s no doubt he’s been missed this season.
