Mikey Johnston was delighted to bag a Parkhead goal at the weekend against Standard Liege for the first team, however the midfielder is unsure where he will be playing his football by the start if the domestic season.

Mikey has came through the ranks of the Celtic academy and has had a taste of first team football in the past. Last year, he didn’t make any first team appearances and bemoaned a thigh injury for maybe not getting on the bench here or there.

The player has looked on top form in pre-season and has certainly given the manager food for thought.

Mikey knows he needs first team football now, and if Rodgers isn’t going to play him much this season then he’s prepared for a temporary Parkhead exit in search of first team football.

“Hopefully, I can break through this year, but if not there are other options.” Mikey admitted.

“If this isn’t my year I’ll need to go somewhere else to play. I’ll see what the gaffer thinks.”

Brendan Rodgers has been assessing his squad carefully before he makes any long term decision fringe players.
