Celtic are through the Scottish Cup final, seven months after the fixture was originally supposed to be played.

A fantastic first half and a defensive second half provided Celtic with the win and a clean sheet.

One big plus in the defence right now is Diego Laxalt who appears to be growing in stature game by game. The little Uruguayan earned the plaudits against Lille and in the Scottish Cup semi-final, he continued his run of form.

Since Thursday night, there has been a clamour for Celtic to sign the defender on a full time deal come next summer. It feels repetitive at this point and creates a side show of sorts.

With so many subplots this season, it’s hard to keep track of every thread. Celtic fans have been known to put an on-loan in form players up on a pedestal and we must refrain from heaping too much pressure on Diego.

We, as a club, should be enjoying the moment and savouring the sort of player we appear to have on our books. We should avoid the usual clamour of will he or won’t he sign and just live in the moment.

Milan bought Diego for around £12m, so it’s not going to be an easy pitch. If he turns out to be a sensation, who knows, but right now, let’s just focus on this season.

  1. We get this nonsense every time we have a half decent player on loan . Been loads of them in the past ten or fifteen years , we must sign him up , like we could actually afford any of them ! Only Edouard would have been the exception, when we did clinch a deal for him . George Weahs boy being one example of playing a few games & the usual sign him up brigade start up as usual . Then he fades & the fickle bunch change their tunes , he was playing against us last week & hardly heard a Dickie bird about him . Basically most on loan with us are just short term visitors . Calm down !

  2. Up to Diego, his agent, Milan and finally the Hoops money men. The fans, the papers, may have their say, players are only worth their fee if really needed. Although Diego is a stand out. But so we’re Roberts, Forester, Bellamy. Keane. And did Celtic buy them. Most of you know the answer. Over the seasons.
