MOUSSA DEMBELE made some comments yesterday that could be construed as his first public admission that he’s looking beyond Celtic but swiftly assured us that there was ‘no plans’ for him to move in January – although plans can change.

The Celtic support has reacted with a certain amount of ambivalence to the news but the overriding takeaway from what I’ve observed on social media is ‘meh’, for the lack of a better term.

This is in no way to say that Celtic fans wouldn’t be concerned or worried should Moussa shoot off in January, they, of course, would be. I think as a fanbase we have dealt with the Moussa speculation so much with a willingness to accept he wouldn’t be here longterm is driving a sort of calm at any developments that would see him leave.

Not to mention the fact Celtic have Leigh Griffiths to call upon like we have for many years now. The goals would not dry up should Dembele move on at any point.

The Celtic fans, well most of the fans that don’t begrudge the new model we find ourselves in that gives us a van Dijk, Wanyama, Forster etc for a few seasons then sell them on for big money know the end game with Moussa.

The striker is a fantastic talent and Brendan Rodgers said himself that he imagined keeping the Frenchman for two seasons before the club and the player looked elsewhere.

There’s big money coming for the man Celtic purchased from Fulham for 500k or thereabouts. The only thing Celtic can do is make sure the club get top dollar and when they do, re-invest in the whole squad.

Brendan Rodgers has done a fantastic job so far, backing him as he builds his squad further beyond this season has a very intriguing element to it. If Moussa does go, it will be up to the Irishman to make sure Leigh has suitable competition, whether that be Edouard or anybody else.
