CELTIC WOMEN will be part of a brand new league setup next season that will fall under the umbrella of the SPFL as the women’s game continues to gain more and more mainstream attention.

The SPFL has confirmed form next season a new league and cup competition will come into play with the Hoops backing the vote to form the new league.

The Hoops are into their second full season as a professional club and have made some great strides. Fran Alonso and the ghirls have already won the League Cup this season and just knocked their Glasgow rivals out of the Scottish Cup.

The league looks beyond the ghirls at this point due to some sloppy results along the way but a double is very much still in play.

The new league and how it will be formatted hasn’t been decided yet, the details will be discussed and voted on in the weeks ahead.

CeltsAreHere.com has been an advocate of the Celtic Women’s side playing their games closer to home. Right now, the ghirls and B team play their games at the Penny Car Stadium in Airdrie with poor transport links and an artificial surface.

Speaking to Fran Alonso lately [Watch Here], the Celtic Women’s manager confirmed to the site Celtic are looking for a new base for the team. Surely that will be pushed up the agenda as we head towards next season.
