As the clock ticks down the January window, it seems more and more players are being linked with a move to Celtic.

The news Celtic are chasing Belgian defender Timothy Castagne has been met with a lot of intrigue from the Celtic support with the left back playing for Atalanta in Italy but keen to move on if he’s not considered first choice.

Castagne, 24, is not an automatic first pick for the Italian side and seems to be getting frustrated on a weekly basis, not knowing if he will make a start for any particular game.

The Belgian did start against Juventus on Boxing Day, but after the game, he had some strong words about his future.

While Timothy specifically mentioned the German and English Leagues as possible destinations – he seems to want two things above all else, a place where he can get forward as well as defend and somewhere he will be considered first choice.

“The German and English leagues are two competitions I find attractive. Teams attack and there is less focus on tactics like there is in Italy.” told SunSport.

“I have spoken to my agent. It’s my second year in Italy and I have to play.

“I do not want to ask myself weekly, ‘Maybe I’ll fall out of the team this week’.

“We will look around a bit, but there is another month to go in the window and football can move very fast.”

Brendan Rodgers is not afraid to spend some serious money for a player he thinks will be worth the expense.

It was in the summer when it looked like Celtic were going to wrap up a £7million deal for Cristiano Piccini before the defender opted for a move to Valencia.
