LATE LAST NIGHT it was reported that Celtic was interested in signing Danny Mandroiu, however, he has since ruled himself out of a move that would see him leave Shamrock Rovers.

Speaking to the Irish Sun about his international future – after failing to receive a call up since May – and club future, the midfielder said;

“He doesn’t ring me, you know what I mean? He’s not my mate or anything All I need to do is keep doing what I’m doing.

“It’s down to me but also down to the manager to pick me, the way it’s going now I am happy at Rovers, I am going to be staying here at Rovers.

“I want to play for my country as that would mean everything.”

If Celtic’s interest was to be true, this will come as a blow for the club with options in the middle of the park few and far between.

The squad is in need of depth at the earliest opportunity possible, with January having the potential to prove pivotal in a title push.

Celtic have already completed business with the Irish club this year, signing Liam Scales in the summer.

The left-back has not played much yet, but when he has played he has looked like a solid player.

Questions of the potential signing were raised, with Scales also transferring across the sea fans were worried the signing of Mandroiu would see the player fail to make an impression on the first team.
