Celtic will receive an attacking “boost” ahead of a crucial run of fixtures under Wilfried Nancy, with Sebastian Tounekti set to return from AFCON duty.
The winger was part of the Tunisia squad that was knocked out of the tournament this week, having played 95 minutes across four games without a goal or assist.
The 23-year-old joined Celtic on deadline day in the summer, but has struggled to make a real impact. The Hoops coughed up a fee of £5 million for him.
With two goals in 20 appearances, his return to Glasgow won’t exactly have fans counting down the days.
Yang has been holding down the right wing and has hit some form in recent weeks, while Luke McCowan, despite being a central midfielder since signing at Celtic, has filled in admirably on the left. No one has seriously claimed the team has been missing Tounekti. And not many will have given him a thought over the past five or so weeks.
Still, Nancy’s Celtic desperately need options. The system hasn’t been clicking, the results have been poor, and with pressure mounting on the manager, any extra bodies could help. Whether Tounekti is the answer, though, is another question entirely.
Celtic face Dundee United at home on Saturday.
