Celtic have been told to ‘go and sign’ Dundee’s Lyall Cameron.

It comes after the Hoops brought in Luke McCowan from the Dee for just £1m on transfer deadline day.

A boyhood fan of the club, McCowan has impressed in midfield despite the limited minutes he has had in green and white so far.

The 26-year-old’s acquisition was a shrewd piece of business from Celtic, who have now been advised to carry out a similar signing.

Indeed, central midfielder Cameron is available on a free transfer next summer.

At just 22 years of age, Cameron has already racked up 135 senior appearances in his career so far.

The Scotland youth internationalist has regularly impressed at Dens Park despite his small stature.

Cameron has registered three assists in seven Scottish Premiership appearances this season, and Andy Halliday thinks the Hoops should make a move for him.

He thinks Celtic or their Glasgow rivals should raid the City of Discovery for the midfielder.

“See McCowan signing for Rangers or Celtic from Dundee, that’s a no-brainer signing,” he said (Open Goal via RecordSport).

“Dundee fans won’t like this, but Lyall Cameron is the next one. Go and sign him.

“I’m not saying this is the player that’s going to come in and make the immediate impact for you, but when I look at the squad players that Rangers and Celtic have signed over the years and spent good dough on, surely go and sign these boys.”

At least so far, McCowan has been a sensible yet effective signing for Celtic.

The club might have the chance to repeat it next summer and bring in Cameron for perhaps even cheaper than what they got his ex-Dundee teammate for.

Having a core of homegrown Scottish players is always beneficial at Celtic to drive elite standards, know what the club means and everything that comes with it, and fulfil quotas for European competitions. Cameron could be a constructive addition to the current nucleus of natives.
