According to the Shropshire Star Celtic have been tracking the progress of Shrewsbury town’s young English centre-back Ben Crompton.

The 18-year-old has opted to leave the club at the end of the season and can now be picked up as a free agent.

Given his lack of experience, Ben is surely looked at as a potential project for the club and someone who could perform in the B side in the Lowland League.

Celtic B scored plenty of goals last season but they struggled with the defensive side of things. If they’re looking to train and progress centre-backs in the first team, it would stand to reason they’re on the look out for young talent.

Mark Lawwell and Ange Postecoglou will be formulating a plan for the first team next season but there always has to be structure and recruitment on the youth side of things.

The more layers we can train and get into the first team, the better it is for the club.
