The summer transfer window officially opened today, with clubs up and down Scotland eager to strengthen their squads for the new season.

At Celtic, there are several areas of the team which need to be addressed, midfield being one.

A permanent deal for Paulo Bernardo remains in the works but according to Sky Sports, the Hoops are also tracking Dundee man Luke McCowan.

The 26-year-old is into the last year of his contract at Dens Park having stood out in the season gone by.

Tomy Docherty’s side secured a surprise top-six finish, with McCowan key to a lot of what they did.

From midfield, a record of 10 goals and five assists in 37 league games for a team like Dundee has to be commended.

A key leader for his side, McCowan wore the armband for the Dee several times in 2023/24 and particularly caught the eye when the champions visited the North East just after the split.

He would count towards Celtic’s homegrown quota for Europe and likely prove to be a reliable squad option.

Let’s see how this one develops over the next few weeks and months.

  1. Could be promising, but still think Armstrong would be favourite in Rodgers plans, even if it goes against club policy imo?
Even if Kelly was to sign a new contract, he along with Vata remain in the development stage of there careers.
We still require ready-made squad players for places within the squad for next season, especially within the midfield areas?
As things stand, we can only be confident about already having only 3 midfield players in position within the squad for next season imo?
Paulo is not completed yet, and huge uncertainty regarding Oreily along with Kelly?
So still a fair amount of work required for the picture to become far clearer as to what our midfield areas within the squad could be looking like for next season?
