Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke is once again attracting interest from Italian side Lecce, signalling a potential move away from Parkhead this summer. Lecce previously pursued the Swedish centre-back but negotiations fell through in January.

Lagerbielke’s time at Celtic has been marked by limited opportunities under Brendan Rodgers. Despite his promising arrival from Elfsborg last summer, the 24-year-old has struggled to secure a place in the starting lineup. His appearances have been sporadic, highlighted by a mere four-minute cameo in a win over St Johnstone in March.

Italian outlet Tutto Mercato reports that Lecce are preparing a renewed bid to bring Lagerbielke to Serie A. However, they face competition from Frosinone, recently relegated to Serie B, who are also keen on securing his services.

Gustaf was brought in alongside Maik Nawrocki to strengthen Celtic’s defensive options, but both players have seen limited action, with Lagerbielke making only nine appearances.

As the summer window approaches, the need for regular first-team football is likely driving Lagerbielke to seek opportunities elsewhere.

For Celtic, offloading Lagerbielke could help streamline the squad and potentially recover some of the investment made in him. With Brendan Rodgers seemingly not convinced by the Swede’s abilities, a move might be in the best interest of both the player and the club.
