CELTIC announced the official return of Peter Lawwell on Friday afternoon after months of speculation.

To say Peter is a divisive figure among the support would be an understatement.

There are lots of fans who cheer on Peter for the trophies won under his stewardship as CEO. However, there’s just as many, if not more, who hold serious reservations about his governance of the club. As a club, we stayed still under Peter using the fetishisation of whats’s in our bank account after Rangers liquidation as a useful weapon to not spend money on the Celtic team.

It’s why today, Celtic neglected to put ANY reaction or even the announcement on their Twitter page.

The club no exactly the backlash Peter’s announcement would cause on social media. Fans would converge on anything the club posted on it.

It speaks to the fact they know the decision will be unpopular on the platform. The Celtic board feel empowered by the COVID season when it comes to Twitter. The unrest and anger online was red hot and there was worry it would affect the club’s bottom line going into the new season. What happened next was every single fan purchased their season tickets as usual and the world turned despite the vitriol both online and off it.

Twitter is a place for emotional and instant reactions so I do see the point in what Celtic are doing by not posting the news on the social media platform. However, I do question their wisdom and their attitude towards fans in general at times.

They claimed at the AGM there was a process taking place for Celtic’s next chairman. A process as thorough as Neil Lennon’s second appointment as the manager of the club. Peter’s role is supposed to be hands off, but fans will be sceptical.
