Celtic are reportedly in talks to sign PSV central midfielder Joël van den Berg, while another long-linked target, Ermin Mahmić, looks set to move to Turkey.

Dutch outlet Voetbal International reports that a member of the Celtic “delegation” is in Eindhoven to open talks over a potential transfer for the Netherlands Under-19 international.

Van den Berg is also reportedly open to a move to the Hoops. He has also been left out of the Jong PSV squad for tonight’s fixture vs Waalwijk.

The central midfielder has also made six competitive appearances for PSV’s first team, so he is far from the finished article, and would need time to develop at Celtic.

With Celtic still looking to sign players before Thursday’s transfer deadline, the trip to the Netherlands suggests work is continuing on a midfielder before that deadline.

One player who now looks heavily unlikely to join Celtic is Ermin Mahmić.

Sport Klub reports that the Bosnia and Herzegovina international is set to join Turkish Super Lig side Çorum from Slovan Liberec in a deal worth €5 million.

Mahmić is reportedly set to travel to Turkey on Saturday for a medical, with the transfer potentially finalised shortly afterwards in another blow for the Hoops during a tough week.

The deal is reportedly set to run until 2030.

Celtic were consistently linked with a move for the Bosnia and Herzegovina World Cup star, alongside PAOK, Union Berlin, Toulouse and Schalke.

However, Çorum have reportedly agreed a fee, and Mahmić is now on his way to Turkey in a deal that appears to have come out of nowhere and progressed at lightning pace, something Celtic supporters would have hoped the Hoops could have managed themselves.

That leaves Celtic continuing to assess other midfield targets, with Van den Berg now seemingly the most likely to join as Niko Sigur closes in on a move to Genk.

With members of the Hoops hierarchy reportedly in the Netherlands, it now feels increasingly likely that a deal for Van den Berg could be wrapped up before Thursday’s deadline.
