Celtic Women grabbed a late point as they were held to a draw against Spartans this afternoon.

Fran Alonso’s side went into the game, looking to pile the pressure on title rivals, Rangers and Glasgow City – who both face off against one another today.

However, his side couldn’t take advantage as they were made to fight until the very end to pick up the point against Spartans.

The Hoops started the game well, opening the scoring after just 11 minutes as Tegan Bowie tucked home a parried effort to give the Ghirls the lead.

Just two minutes later, though, the away side hit back and quickly levelled up the scoring through Rosie McQuillan.

Three minutes before the break, though, it got worse for Fran Alonso and his side, with Spartans taking a 2-1 lead and McQuillan scoring once again.

Alonso made two changes after the half-time interval, bringing Clarissa Larisey and Olivia Chance to replace Jodie Bartle and Rachel Donaldson to try and change the game up.

Despite pushing to get back into the game, it took until the final few moments of stoppage time to score a late equaliser, and it was Charlie Wellings who popped up with yet another goal this season.

It might only have been a draw. However, it kept up Celtic’s impressive run of 20 league games without defeat.

Of course, they will still be frustrated with the end result but will also be looking to bounce back instantly with a win at the end of the month against Glasgow rivals Rangers in the League Cup.
