Celtic Women leapfrogged into the Champions League places after a comprehensive 3-0 victory against Motherwell this afternoon.

A double from Rachel Donaldson and a Sarah Teegarden strike in the first half was enough to take home all three points for the Ghirls as they jumped into second place, a point above Rangers.

The Hoops opening the scoring after 17 minutes of the game after some brilliant build-up play. A long ball down the wing found winger Sarah Ewans, who hit the byline before delivering a cross into the box to find Donaldson at the back post, nodding the ball home.

10-minutes from the break, Celtic were able to double their lead through Donaldson again. Winger, Sarah Ewens was involved in setting up the goal again, flicking on from Jacynta. Donaldson then had time to take a touch and finish past the Well keeper.

Just before half-time, Fran Alonso’s side added a third goal. Some great determination from Anna Filbey saw her win the ball back, which allowed her to drive to the byline and deliver a cross. This time, it was midfielder Sarah Teegarden who was waiting to finish.

Into the second half, Celtic continued to probe the Motherwell defence. However, they couldn’t add to their three goals in the first 45 minutes and came away with a 3-0 win, and three points.

This result is a positive one that will delight Fran Alonso. Both Rangers and Glasgow City take on each other later this afternoon, so by the end of play Celtic will have at least made up ground on one of the sides, if not both.

Next up, is another big game on Wednesday night against Glasgow City.
