CELTIC WOMEN lifted the Scottish Women’s Cup on Sunday afternoon, after playing an action-packed 120 minutes.

The Hoops took the lead early on. With 18 minutes played, the Hoops were 1-0 up after Shen netted the ball from a tight angle.

However, Glasgow City replied six minutes later. A free-kick from the left was tapped in as Clark pulled her side level.

Then, Fran Alonso’s girls were back in front. Chloe Wellings bagged her 40th goal of the season, sending the keeper the wrong way from the penalty. It was her first goal this season that wasn’t from open play – impressive.

Then, the referee made a huge mistake. Jodie Bartle was shown red and conceded a penalty. How the referee came to the decision is beyond me, replays show that there was no foul committed, even in real-time this was clear. City then equalised from the spot.

The referee then blew the whistle to signal an end to the ninety, with extra time up next.

In the 113th minute, Izzy Atkison found herself through on goal. She continues with the ball, and when the keeper began to rush out, she slid it between her legs. A brilliant goal to win Celtic the Cup.

It’s the first time Celtic have won the double. 4,345 watched on as the Ghirls lifted the trophy, up from 3,645 that witnessed Celtic’s first cup win of the season. Hibs and Hearts still hold the biggest attendance record.

It’s a brilliant achievement from the team. Hopefully, there’s more to come in the upcoming season.
