Celtic women’s Charlie Wellings looks to relishing the task of facing SWPL Champions Glasgow City this weekend.

Speaking to the club official website, the Hoops face off against City at home on Sunday for what is expected to be a crucial, early top of the table clash and Wellings, along with her teammates, are looking to set the benchmark with a good result this weekend.

She said: “You’re always going to play them at some point. But for me personally, it’s a good benchmark to see where we’re at and see what we need to work on.

Wellings added: “As a forward, you always want to be scoring goals, but I’m not really a player that thinks about it too much.

“I go into the games just wanting to do the best that I can and help the team.

“It’s a credit to the girls as well because, without them, I couldn’t score my goals.

“They’re (Glasgow City) obviously coming to win the game and kick back after a defeat. We fully expect that, and we know the players they have in their team and the quality.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game, but we believe in ourselves.”

Since joining Fran Alonso’s side this summer, the former Birmingham City and Bristol forward has hit the ground running in pre-season and has already added her first two league goals of the season against Aberdeen last week.

Over the past 15 years or so, City has been the benchmark for Women’s football, picking up league trophy after league trophy.

Last season though, Alonso and his side pushed to the very end, finishing in 2nd place just behind the eventual Champions.

They will be hoping to go one better this year, and hopefully, they can kick start a title push with a victory on Sunday.
