New Ibrox signing Jordan Jones posted his delight at signing for the club on his Instagram and his compatriot Paddy McNair was quick to congratulate the player under the post. The result was a clamour Gers fans asking Paddy when he was signing for the Ibrox club before Northen Irish teammate Ryan Mclaughlin urged the player to sign for Celtic.
We’ve come to the conclusion, Ryan might be onto something!
Paddy started his career at Manchester United and has even played for the first team at Old Trafford. He comes from a great system and has a good knowledge of the game.
He was sold to Sunderland back in 2016 and spent two seasons there before Middelsborough bought the versatile midfielder for £5.25m. The Northern Irish international only made 16 Championship appearances for his club last season and there could be room for a move if ‘Boro were to be asked the question.
McNair, 24, has 23 caps to his name, is predominantly a defensive midfielder but can also fill in at centre back and right back. That ticks a lot of boxes for Celtic and their current needs. With his club using him sparingly last season, there’s certainly room for negotiation.
Neil Lennon is looking for good players – Paddy has shown what he can do in flashes and coming up to the Scottish Champions could help him fulfil his potential.
If the opportunity presents itself, Celtic would be mad not to at least try and sign the player. The midfielder is apparently a fan of a certain Ibrox side, however, as we’ve seen from past transfers – that’s not remotely a deal breaker.
