Celtic youngster Luca Connell has received a late call-up to Ireland under 21s squad that is set to take on Wales u21s this week.

This adds to an impressive week for the 19-year old who completed a loan move to Scottish League Two side Queens Park and made his debut for the Spiders at the weekend grabbing an assist, and a Man of the Match award for his performance.

With this call-up, it does mean he will likely miss the chance to add to his debut performance for Queens Park next weekend as they take on Brechin City, however, this is still to be confirmed if he will be unable to play.

In making this squad he also joins up with fellow Celtic team-mates and current loanee’s Lee O’Connor and Jonathan Afolabi.

As fans, we are yet to see much of Connell in the Green and White Hoops with only a handful of friendly appearances to go off, so it was good to see him make an instant impact on his first game for his loan side.

Fingers crossed, this can help the Irish midfielder gain some experience and come back a better player ahead of next season.
