The UEFA Youth League, which runs parallel to the Champions League, continued this afternoon and Celtic were involved once more.
This time around, the Bhoys hosted Atletico Madrid at the City Stadium, but they eventually fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat. Darren O’Dea did name a strong side pre-match with the likes of Mackenzie Carse, Rocco Vata, and Bruno Davidson all starting however they were undone in the end.
David Munoz opened the scoring for the visitors seven minutes from half-time and just as the Hoops thought they were getting back into the game, Atleti struck again, Rayane Belid lashing in from close range. This goal ended all hopes of a comeback and put the seal on a big victory for the Spaniards.
It was a tough defeat to take for Celtic youngsters because their play was positive throughout, but the quality of a team such as Atletico defined the big moments. Up next in Youth League for the Celts is a trip to the Spanish capital in two weeks’ time.
