Celtic have been quick off the mark this summer much like the January and have brought in a total of five players to date with Portuguese winger Jota being the most recent addition.

The department which deals with transfers has also had an upgrade with Mark Lawwell being appointed as head of scouting and recruitment.

With such busy activity, the cost of moves can now be examined to assess where we are it.

Celtic’s total spend so far this summer has been £17,550,000 which has been spent on Daizen Maeda (£1.3million) [Football Scotland], Cameron Carter-Vickers (£6 million) [Scotsman], Benjamin Siegrist (Free), Alexandro Bernabei (£3.75 million) [SkySports] and Jota (£6.5 million) [SkySports].

The club are in a unique position this season having won the league championship which had given Ange Postecoglou’s side direct entry into the group stages of the Champions League.

This seals a very nice windfall for the Hoops with Celtic expected to receive a guaranteed £30 million from the entry fee, coefficient status and TV pool and points picked up during the competition. This figure is likely to rise to £40 million upon factoring in ticket revenues and the bonuses that come with UCL matchdays.

It puts the club in a very strong financial position going forward but ultimately results and players on the park are what really matters to supporters.

Postecoglou has spoken about building a beautiful house and even though fans would have full trust in the manager to replace any outgoings, with players having the opportunity to play in Europe’s elite competition, the club should be doing everything they can to hold on to our best assets as many players transfer value will only rise with a World Cup also on the horizon.
