Celtic fans have clamoured for the permanent signing of Jota from Benfica. But we’ve not had the same sort of drive or push for our other loan bhoy – that was until this week.

Cameron Carter-Vickers has been brilliant since coming into the club from Spurs in the final hours of the summer transfer window. After not playing very much, the defender has established himself as a first team starter in Glasgow.

His no-nonsense approach to the game has been welcome, and we can only imagine the player will get better.

Our editor @CraigCelt put the tweet below out and it blew up. Everyone seems to agree CCV should be snapped up.

There has been some confusion over CCV’s contract status. A well-placed source at Spurs has told CeltsAreHere the London club covered themselves by extending Carter-Vicker’s contract by a year. Man of the usual sites have the defender’s deal up at the end of this season, but as far as we’re aware – that isn’t the case.

This notion is further backed up by Celtic having an option to buy CCV in the summer, an option that would not need to be negotiated at all if he was free to sign for anyone in January of this year.

Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur FC on loan until the end of the season, with Celtic having an option to buy.’

Explaining Spurs policy on the Gold and Guest Podcast, Spurs insider Alasdair Gold said:

“Well, as I found out with Cameron Carter-Vickers, never, ever believe the contract end date stated anywhere with any young player at Tottenham.

“The club have this habit, and this isn’t the first time, they did it with Tanganga at one point. Of, behind the scenes, extending the player’s contract when they go out on loan, essentially to protect themselves.

“Maybe it’s an automatic option or maybe the player has stuck another year on at the same rate.”

So what is CCVs first option fee?

There’s no definitive on this but we’ve done some digging and SunSport along with some other journalists have claimed the fee is around £5m. That is a large outlay for Celtic – if we were to take the £m report at face value, and we know Jota is £6.5m, that’s £11.5m straight off the bat.

The Celtic board will be having nightmares.

Would you like to see CCV signed beyond this season?

  1. Its not for discussion. He’s been excellent and given the mix beside him, even better. Get him signed and stop the pish about money. Liewell or rrrshole Dessy, before his box arrives and he cant take his money with him, can pay on their own, never mind the money CFC have !!!! Some of us can count Dermott and yes, every paper clip has to be paid for !!!!
