MOST Celtic fans will know the name Fillip Benkovic.

The defender has been linked with the club several times in the past and as recently as January. The stumbling block was always Zagreb’s evaluation of the player – telling any suitors it would take over ten million to land their prized asset.

This summer, Zagreb got their wish and Leicester came in and landed the Croation in a big money move – £13million with addons.

The fee is a large chunk of change which meant Celtic were never in with a realistic chance of landing the 6ft 3″ defender.

However, Leicester seemed to have signed this lad for the future and he’s yet to turn out for the first team, playing two games with the Leicester reserve side.

This has alerted Celtic, who would still be keen on bringing the defender in – even on a temporary basis.

According to the Daily Mail, who broke the story. Celtic will try to land the young Croation on a season long loan before the window closes later in the week

  1. Look we can see what we need two defenders and two midfielders not young work in progress lads but all seasoned pros, now if a player wants to go elsewhere then let him go sell him on and bring in new face or faces do not hold on to players that do not want to stay there are others who will jump at the chance to part of Celtic.

    Bring them in now

    • Yes i agree we keep them and sell when needed, but we do not ever try and hold players who want to move away give them there wish as soon as we can get them moved out,we need around six players out the door as they are just dead wood taking a wage.

  2. Loans are fine, but when the loan’ees go back to their mother clubs, Celtic should make doubly sure they have purchased or have in the squad. a player of the same magnitude as they. I.e. Paddy going and selling Stu and replacing neither. Does not make financial sense either, and unbalances the team by going backwards. I Guess I should know that by now, after being a Celtic fan and going to see them from 1969.
