CELTIC will get a shot at the Champions League next season, even though they will finish runners up in the SPFL.

The club will enter the competition and Round 2 but will likely not be seeded beyond that second round. There is obviously no champions route which makes it more difficult and if you’ve followed Celtic over the past 10 years, we struggle against minnows never mind established European clubs.

Twitter European expert Moravick67_ laid out who Celtic could encounter in the early round of the Champions League and it makes for terrifying reading.

The account wrote: “Based on current standings we’d play either Sparta Prague, Rapid Vienna or Midtjylland in

“QR2. We’ll probably be unseeded for both QR3 and QR4 and need to get by any two of PSV, Besiktas, Lyon, Benfica, CSKA Moscow or Shakhtar Donetsk.”

That sounds daunting enough but just add into it the current uncertainty, the squad turnover likely to happen, the new chief exec taking charge three weeks before the first Champions League tie and no sign of movement on the managerial front. Should we just write this off now?

I have a huge feeling come the end of July I will be here writing Celtic have blown another Champions League opportunity because they have failed to prepare.

The prep should have started in January and if Neil Lennon isn’t the man, then why is he still here? If he is the man, good luck selling season tickets.
