Calls for Celtic to sign Mohamed Elyounoussi on a permanent deal in the summer have died down somewhat over the past two months with the Norweigan out injured.

Before the midfielder sustained a foot injury, there was a groundswell of support for the club asking Southampton the question about his availability.

The winger had enjoyed good form with Celtic and his last match fully fit saw the player score two in a 5-2 win against Hibernian in the semi-final of the League Cup.

However, any chat of signing Mohamed on a long term deal has been met with financial realities. The St Mary’s side splashed out £16m on the player not so long ago and his wages are more than double Celtic’s wage structure.

However, RecordSport has revealed the Southampton side are willing to sell the player to Celtic and it could only take £9m to land the talented winger.

Recordsport writes: ‘Celtic could land winger Mohamed Elyounoussi on a permanent deal if they are willing to match the £9m they splashed out on Odsonne Edouard in June 2018.

‘Record Sport understands fears that the Norwegian international would be out of the Hoops’ price range are unfounded and that a deal to secure Elyounoussi from Southampton remains a possibility.

‘Reports had claimed that the English Premier League side paid Basel £16 million to sign the winger back in 2018, but the actual figure is understood to be £12m plus add-ons, which are unlikely to be hit unless Elyounoussi forces his way back into the Southampton team.’

Should the player get back fit and start performing to the same level then you never know.

  1. So, 6 days later and Morelos and Kent have yet to be cited by the Compliance Officer… ..

I think that is a story that should be pursued.

Had Morelos or Kent carried out the same actions whilst playing in England, or in any other league for that matter the book would be thrown at them.

    • Another player getting bought by Celtics board for 9m my arse. Unless Southamton get 6m + a few of the special reserves or not required players on the pay roll. Because Mo’s wages will be a drain. Let the Celtic beancounters/moneymen decide their fate.

Up to them now. See what they do with the euro cash.
