Celtic fans should be delighted the club have brought in a defensive utility man who can play a number of positions in the squad.

Hatem Elhmaned was announced this afternoon after he got the all-clear with regards to his work permit. The Israeli has signed a four-year deal with the club and is excited by the opportunity.

Our gripe with the signing is the way Celtic announced it on social media.

For the past, maybe even beyond that, Celtic have been looking for a new full time right-back. It really didn’t matter what Celtic posted online, the inevitable, ‘announce a right-back’ or ‘where’s ma right-back’ was sure to crop up in the comments underneath.

The person running Celtic’s social media must have ‘right-back’ fatigue at this point.

However, announcing a centre back as a right-back is slightly disingenuous and maybe an attempt to stop the frustrating tweets.

Hatem has made 61 appearances at Hapoel Be’er Sheva and only 5 of them came as a right-back, one as a left-back and defensive mid and the rest in the centre of defence.

To brand him a right-back to Celtic fans who don’t know any better is very misleading.

If Neil Lennon has brought him in to play right-back then fair enough but Celtic have signed a centre-back who may be converted into a full time right-back.

Pedantic, maybe but it’s strange the things that annoy me!

  1. Yes you let little things like this annoy you. And really you have too much time on your hands to be writing about stuff like this
