LAZIO boss Simone Inzaghi has hit out at criticism after his team were branded ‘a bunch of chickens’ in Italy after their shock defeat to Cluj.

The Italian’s currently sit 5th in Serie A after four games and are five points off the top and bottom of the table at the moment.

However, the source of pain comes from their Europa League defeat to Cluj after Lazio were expected to brush aside the Romanian champions on match day one of the Europa League.

Celtic have already been caught cold by the same side this season and Lazio suffered a similar fate as they squandered a 1-0 lead to lise 2-1 on the night.

Inzaghi called for perspective and slammed the hysteria.

“We won two games in a row and were phenomenal and then we lost two and now we are apparently a bunch of chickens.” he told SunSport.

“I’ll take all constructive criticism on board, but just as we were not phenomenal by winning the games, we are not chickens for losing them.

“We are very confident we will have a good season, but there has to be perspective and there has to be balance.

“The hysteria that seems to follow us around is completely unnecessary. We will get it right.

“There has to be trust between us to the fans and media and the expect the same back. There’s been mistakes, we accept that, but I am satisfied with our work.”

Celtic don’t take on Lazio until matchday three at Celtic Park but they will be hoping the Italian club are still feeling the heat by the time that game rolls around. Matchday four will see the return fixture in Italy and these two games will have a huge say in where Celtic end up in the group.
