Celtic will go into POT 2 for Fridays draw in Switzerland. Here is a provisional look at the seeding’s. With some teams still to play their playoff games this week this might well change.

EUROPA

With teams likes Tottenham, Lyon and current holders Sevilla in this years competition this will be no easy ride for Celtic. In fact all 4 pots have teams Celtic in their current state just can’t live with. The potential is there for Celtic to draw Legia in their group but I’m told UEFA sometimes stop these things from happening, especially when there is still an on-going court case about their last games together. On 17 July 2014, a UEFA emergency panel ruled that Ukrainian and Russian clubs would not be drawn against each other “until further notice” due to the political unrest between the countries. They could use similar tactics in this case.

The Europa League is no consolation for Celtic fans this morning but it could bring the team redemption if they can put a few results together. Neil Lennon used this competition to help shape his team that would go on to beat Barcelona in the Champions league and get place in the last 16 of the competition. All is certainly not lost.

Ironically, the final of this years competition is in Warsaw, Poland in the Stadion Narodowy.

As of this season the winner of the Europa League gets a crack at the Champions League next season.
