Stephen Glass has confirmed Celtic did everything in their power to try and keep the captain at the club.

The new Dons boss signed Brown as a player/coach and Scott will join up with him at Pittodrie in the summer.

However, Glass confirms Celtic made a last ditch attempt to keep Scott at Parkhead.

Celtic phoned Brown the day he was in Aberdeen to sign the pre-contract and they attempted to change his kind.

Glass basically confirms the Celtic legend was offered more to stay at Celtic but Brown was attracted to the opportunity rather than the money.

“When I got offered the job, the next step was to get Scott Brown done.” Glass told RecordSport.

“What Mr (Peter) Lawwell came out and said showed how important Scott is to us and to Celtic.

“The fact that Mr Lawwell said they tried desperately to keep Scott Brown says everything about Scott Brown.

“I know for a fact they did on the last day he was up here signing his pre-contract.

“They were desperate to keep him and there were people trying to convince him not to come.

“I believe I had provided everything that I could. He’s not here for the money.

“He’s here for the opportunity, for trust and the environment he’s going to be working in.”

Scott has spoken out since about the uncertainty at the club being a big reason for not sticking around.

He was offered a great opportunity to get stuck into coaching and wants to begin that part of his career after the summer.

It does speak to Celtic’s last minute, last ditch approach to things and trying one last time to keep Brown at the club.

The midfielder will end his time at Celtic when the curtain comes down on this season. It’s up to the current squad if he leaves with some silverware.

The team head to Ibrox on Sunday hoping to take a giant step towards the Scottish Cup.
