The praise we’ve lavished on many Ange Postecoglou’s signings over the past 12 months is there for all to see. The bhoys have been fantastic, and on their day, they’ve all made a case for being Ange’s top signing.

Jota’s incredible talent. Kyogo’s goal scoring ability, Abada doing Abada things at such a young age. However, there’s a man who has shown how pivotal he is to Celtic without kicking a ball this weekend — Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Signed on loan last season, CCV would come in and be a huge part of why Celtic won the league in Ange’s first season.

The American international has been a rock at the start of this season. When I saw him missing from the starting XI on Sunday afternoon, I did have some trepidation. I didn’t think Celtic were about to be beaten, but it gave me cause for concern.

Unfortunately, Celtic fell to a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren and while the whole team, including the manager, had a nightmare, it was our defence that proved our undoing. Our sloppiness, lack of leadership and physicality gave St Mirren a base to go and win the game. All teams have their off day and there is an element of that at play, but it’s no coincidence we looked less than sturdy in defence without our main man CCV.

Carl Starfelt is also important but CCV’s positioning, strength and ability to organise the defence means he is Celtic’s most important defender, and for me, Ange’s best signing.

I’m sure in a few weeks time, I’ll be raving about Jota again and making the same claim about the Portuguese star who is truly an outstanding talent.

If we want success this season, we can’t have Cameron missing too many games. Signing the American to a permanent deal was a great bit of business.

    • The full team were yesterday. Wouldn’t pin it all on one guy missing but it’s clear we are legion and we need ‘as good as’ replacements for our regular starters as some don’t pass muster. Respect the process and we move on.
