BRENDAN RODGERS is holding his breath after seeing his returning midfielder hobble off in Celtic’s second pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon.

Jonny Hayes has just come back from a leg break and is looking to make his mark on the team but after 33 minutes the Irishman’s game came to a premature end.

Brendan Rodgers cursed his bad luck seeing Jonny come off as he looks to get back to full fitness in time for Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers.

However, the gaffer is holding his breath for his £1million man.

“Jonny’s thigh is a bit tight and we’ll just have to see how he is.

“It’s a shame for him as he started the game quite well combining with Scott Sinclair down the left.

“Hopefully, we have just been a wee bit cautious but he felt his thigh when he had the shot that just went wide.”

Hayes was just starting to get more game time last season when injury struck and ruled him out for the rest of the season.
