Scott Brown has pretty much named his successor as captain if he does leave Celtic this summer. The current Celtic captain heaped praise on his midfield partner Callum McGregor and how he’s evolved over the years.

If you’ve been paying attention you would have noticed Callum has taken on much more responsibility this term. He’s the guy who’s come out of the dressing room, time and time again when the results didn’t go our way.

The Celtic star faced the cameras and spoke well, even in defeat.

Above that, his influence on the pitch isn’t what it used to be. If Broony is to go this summer, it’s clear who he thinks should be the next man to wear the arm band permanently.

“When you look inside a dressing room, you know that people will follow someone like Callum because he is a top-quality player with drive and belief.” Brown told RecordSport.

“I give him the respect that he deserves because he goes in and he speaks to all of the lads. He’s always got time and he’s a proper professional as well. When we were dealing with stuff when this [Covid closure of football] all began to happen, he was my go-to man. He came up with a lot of things and has helped me out.

“It’s the mark of a captain that he can easily fall into that role. When he talks before games now, all of the lads listen, which is brilliant.

“Maybe three or four years ago, Callum might have said something and it might not have had the same effect.

“But now everyone knows what he has done in the game and they listen. He’s a top-quality player who speaks very well at the same time.”

Callum has been at the club since he was a very young lad. He went out on loan to Notts County once upon a time and nearly left the club had it not been for Ronny Deila. The Norwegian seen plenty in a young McGregor that Neil Lennon didn’t notice.

During the Brendan Rodgers era, McGregor like most of the bhoys, played his best footballs

There’s no reason why a nee manager can’t get the best out of this team with Callum as captain.

  1. McGregor is no leader and is incredibly lucky to still find a place in the team.
If he is our next captain then its yet another example of our downsizing over the last couple of years.
He can’t put in a tackle and he always plays the safe pass sideways or backwards
