Paulo Bernardo made a significant contribution for Portugal’s under-21 side last night, as they secured their place at next summer’s U21 European Championships.
The Celtic midfielder captained his country in a 3-1 victory over the Faroe Islands, playing the full 90 minutes.
Bernardo’s standout moment came in the second half when he blasted home Portugal’s third goal, sealing the victory in style.
Following the match, Bernardo took to Instagram to celebrate the victory, which booked in his plans for next summer:
The goal was a well-deserved reward for Bernardo, who will be hoping his recent international form can be a springboard for further improvement at Celtic.
After joining the Hoops on loan from Benfica this summer, the midfielder is still looking to cement a regular place in Brendan Rodgers’ side amidst vast competition from the likes of Arne Engels, Reo Hatate, and Luke McCowan.
In the minutes he has played for the Bhoys this term, the 22-year-old has appeared sharp and vivacious. He is more than willing to drive forward but equally do the dirty work.
He stood out in the Glasgow derby at the beginning of last month and, for just £3.5m, was arguably one of Celtic’s most shrewd pieces of transfer business in the summer gone by.
Fans are excited to see how he develops at Parkhead over the coming years.
