Celtic have today began their season ticket renewal campaign WITHOUT a new manager in place.

The club has frozen season ticket prices for next season but there will be no reduction.

Instead, Celtic will hand out £50 vouchers to every season ticket holder to use in the Celtic superstore, we’re told there will be no caveats and these vouchers will be redeemable on new kits and merchandise.

Over and above that the club are pressing on with discounts on tours and the number seven restaurant among other initiatives.

We’re told the voucher scheme runs to about £2.5m for the club.

Verdict

To be honest, putting out season tickets before a new manager is in place is going to land serious heat with the supporters. However, given the time frame between now and Celtic’s pre-season, the club can’t hold off any longer. It begs the question what really is going on with the Eddie howe appointment and why can’t they announce him?

There is scope for pre-contacts etc to lock someone down before any other deal has run out.

With regards to the season ticket offering itself – it leaves a lot to be desired.

The supporters don’t want to cripple the club financially with massive refunds but the consultation of what to do next and the club’s opinion of ‘added value’ for last season has been an absolute farce.

All the initiatives the club outlines are discounts and vouchers that will see Celtic fans have to pay more money out. Yes, a discount on the Soccer academy, restaurant etc. but that’s only if we spend ‘x’ amount more.

A £50 voucher won’t even cover a new home jersey. Yes, it’s something and people who are more inclined to have the club’s back will argue that point.

We’re just saying, the way the board have gone about their business this season has been so alienating.

The chasm between the custodians of our club and the core of our support is massive. It will be up to Dominic McKay to bridge that gap.
