Today we got to hear from a man who has been ever-present at the club since he was a young lad making his way in the game John Kennedy. The Celtic coach is part of the furniture at Celtic Park nowadays but we don’t ever hear from him.

John has been in the background for many years, working behind the scenes back when Neil Lennon was the manager too, working through Deila’s days and getting a prominent role in the Rodgers revolution.

When things have been going bad, the coach has come under scrutiny for what he brings to the defensive side of our squad. If the Celtic team are shipping goals, there has been questions asked about John’s role at the club.

However, as we sat down to watch a Neil Lennon press conference, his new assistant manager John Kennedy was in attendance and finally, he had a platform and a voice. John spoke about the squad, what he had done since Monday, managing the players through these choppy waters and giving insight into the current team.

He was the surprise package of the day, while the media were looking for their Neil Lennon sound bites, John came across as a top professional who like Neil said will become a valued and top member of the Celtic coaching staff for the rest of the season.

Neil Lennon may be the man in charge and the buck stops with him but the Irishman will lean heavily on his new assistant and rightly so. This could be the making of the young Celtic coach.
