Celtic are keen to bolster their midfield this summer, with a Paulo Bernardo deal imminent and links to other midfielders popping up.

One of those links is Shea Charles of Southampton. The Hoops are keen on a standalone loan-to-buy deal for the player and are not keen to work him into any potential O’Riley deal.

This comes amid continued interest from Southampton in Matt O’Riley. Celtic have thrown out bids from the club headed by Russel Martin, who worked with the Danish midfielder at MK Dons.

Despite the connection and interest from Southampton, Celtic has made it clear they do not wish to intertwine the potential acquisition of Charles with any deal that might see O’Riley depart. They are treating the recruitment of Charles and the potential sale of O’Riley as separate moves, reports RecordSport.

There’s a lot of frustration surrounding this window, but as Celtic prepare to return to domestic football, there does seem to be a little bit more movement.

  1. Off coarse there is there having been a lot of sparring but with weeks to champion league games the real stuff start a lot of speculation and comic book journalism but there’s some supporters are asking for a higher class player and that takes time we are in spl and that it’s not a merit badge in our cv
