Brendan Rodgers suffered only his second defeat against Scottish opposition last week at Rugby Park. In a similar fashion to his first loss, a lot of his player failed to show up.

With a “Double Treble” very much on the cards, the Bhoys will know they will have to show up today if that goal is to be achieved. Brendan Rodgers knows exactly what needs to happen and is under no illusions about selecting the right team.

“Whatever team we put out, we always look to win the game and that’s the plan for Saturday. “We’ll be looking to get through to the quarter-finals, but Partick always gives us a tough game. It’s a cup we want to win. It’s a really prestigious competition that we enjoyed winning last year.

“Alan (Archibald)’s an excellent coach who manages his squad really well, and they’re always difficult to beat.

“We played them a few weeks ago so we know their threat and the qualities that they have. We’re never complacent against any team we play and they’ll be looking to bounce back from the result in midweek.

“They’ve got good energy in their team so we’ll have to protect ourselves against that while showing our qualities.”

Team selection seems to get tougher each week as injuries mount up. Dedryck Boyata is out as is Kristoffer Ajer after both limped off last weekend. Jack Hendry is ineligible for today’s game which leaves Jozo and Bitton at the back. Paddy Roberts could be back in the mix after spending the week training.
