Chairman of Aberdeen, David Cormack, urges Peter Lawwell and Steve Brown to usher in change for SPFL.

The Aberdeen chief believes both new board members must start managing the league like a serious business.

David Cormack has been troubled by the lack of commercial sense within the SPFL league board. The Dons chairman has explained they need to usher in more change and Peter Lawwell should be spearheading the plan.

Cormack told SunSport

“We have to focus on Scottish football. What do we want to be? What is our vision?

“I don’t know what the vision is. We don’t have a branding strategy.

“We should be looking at ‘how can we generate £40million a year at the centre, as opposed to £25million?’

“To do that, we’ll need a review, a proper, constructive review of Scottish football.”

The Celtic’s chief executive has just been appointed onto the SPFL board. Both the St Johnstone chief and Celtic CEO have taken the places of Rangers*, Stewart Robertson, and Motherwell’s, Alan Burrows.

The top-flight doesn’t even have a sponsor going into the new season. That has to be the fault of Neil Doncaster and the way he sells the league to others. Our product is constantly being put down by people inside our game. While you look south of the border and everyone gushes about the football in England although sometimes it fails to match the hype.

Peter Lawwell has the acumen to do good things inside the SPFL board if he is allowed the time and space to get on with things.
