It has been under a week since Ayr Chairman, Lachlan Cameron told the media his star striker Lawrence Shankland was not for sale in January at any cost.

Shankland has been banging in goals for fun in the Championship and has caught the eye of many scouts.

Even though the player is coming to the end of his current deal in the summer, the Ayr Chairman had insisted he stay to attempt for a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to go for promotion to the top flight – an understandable stance to make.

However, it would appear Cameron has now softened that stance and is braced for potential movement in January.

If Shankland was to move in the winter window the club would get a decent fee for the striker but could see their promotion push stop dead.

Cameron thinks he could come to a compromise.

“In a perfect world that would be the scenario we’d like — to have Shankland loaned back immediately,” Cameron told WalesOnline.

“He would be secure for his future, and Ayr would get his services until the end of the season, so everybody is happy.

“We’re in a very weird position in that Lawrence is almost priceless because we have a once in a generation opportunity here to go for it.”

If Celtic are keen on the lower league striker then this type of deal would not suit Brendan Rodgers. With only one fit striker in the squad at the moment, Celtic need players in now, not in the summer.
