Dedryk Boyata has given his manager a timely boost as Celtic’s Champions League campaign gets set to start next month.

The defender, who has been out since the start of the season is back in training after a lengthy period on the treatment table.

In his absence, Celtic have had to field an inexperienced Ajer as well as midfielder Nir Bitton in his position as Celtic went about qualifying for the group stages.

They did well in his absence, but Astana away was a stark reminder, the manager can’t rely on that formula for PSG and Bayern.

The defender played a big part in the second half Celtic’s invincible season, his career rehabilitated under Brendan Rodgers’ tutelage.

The manager prefers Dedryk in the heart of defence with Jozo above Erik Sviatchenko and will welcome his imminent return to fitness.

He has had no pre season, so it will be a while yet before the defender is fully fit and raring to go.

  1. Class act or not, I’d rather the club had control over him leaving rather than him being able to chat to other clubs this time next year and then toddle off for next to nowt. I find the whole situation somewhat strange…. he signs a 2 year deal which keeps him hear one year more than his then current contract. That’s been done to keep him around till Celtic get the right offer……

  2. Players come and go all the time. Some we supported are sad to see leave others we are happy with selling and yet others most say Who! Armstrong was great last year. He is still the same player and will be great this year. If he wants to move sideways to the EPL then he will go out on the pitch and prove himself. If he plays his heart out wearing the hoops what more do you want. I’d rather see him score or set up players in green and white than some EPL outfits colours but that’s his choice. Let enjoy him while we can.
