Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has responded to the latest links suggesting that Celtic are targeting Derby full-back Nathan Byrne.

As quoted by DerbyshireLive, Rooney made a strong claim suggesting that his players will be going nowhere, considering the club’s current playing staff problem.

“None of my players are going anywhere.

“Obviously, we haven’t got enough players as it is.

“The way we are trying to play, they are the two most important players on the pitch, so none of my players will be leaving the club this transfer window unless it is to benefit them, whether it is a loan, but that can only happen if we are allowed to bring players in.”

Byrne has recently entered the final 12 months of his contract with his current club, so the Rams have a decision to make on that front.

With that being said, Wayne Rooney has made his thoughts clear on the situation and with Derby’s lack of players at this stage, it doesn’t seem too likely that the 29-year old will be leaving.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, especially in the full-back area.

So with this statement from the County manager, it seems almost certain that we will have any chance of securing the Englishmen and should now focus on other players in the same position.
