CELTIC were this week linked again with Championship striker Lawrence Shankland after the player made the move from Ayr to Dundee Utd.

The 24-year-old might be at a new club but he’s getting the same results. Shankland is scoring for fun and is continuing to attract attention.

There were claims Celtic scout Tosh McKinlay watched Lawrence last week as he bagged a hat-trick. It would probably be deemed as negligible by Celtic if they didn’t go have a proper look at this lad and turned their noses up at the idea of a Championship striker signing for the club.

Shankland has done so well he got his first call-up for Scotland this week and could come into Stevie Clarke’s thinking for the games in October.

The speculation surrounding the striker doesn’t appear to be subsiding any time soon and there will be many watching with interest to see if he plays for Scotland and if he can find the net at international level.

Speaking about any potential move elsewhere – Shankland was professional and admitted his goals before moving on.

“I have a job to do here this season. I signed for three years with United in the summer – and that’s what I’m committed to.” Lawrence told RecordSport.

“If and when I do leave, I want United to be in the Premiership. That was part of my objective when I came here.

“The club has ambition to get back into the top flight and be established in that league. That’s why I signed the contract I did.

“So hopefully we win the Championship or get through the play-offs and be up there next season.”
